Consulate General of India, Guangzhou, in association with Kunming Foreign Affairs Office and Kunming University organized the "First India-China (Kunming) International Day of Yoga" event on 21 June 2015 at Kunming University Indoor Stadium. Representatives from Pondicherry India-China friendship association, Mrs. Radha Srinivasagopalan, and Dr. Das Bikash Kali participated in the event and exchanged views with the Chinese students and Yoga masters.

The "China-India Yoga College" was opened at the Yunnan Minzu University in Kunming in 2015 in collaboration with the Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) after the visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to China that year. The China Yoga Industry Development Report (CYIDR) report said that old links between “pure” yoga from India and traditional Chinese culture including Tai Chi and traditional Chinese medicine aided the spread of the practice in China. China, backed India’s move at the UN to make June 21st, the International Yoga Day, giving an opportunity to hundreds of yoga clubs and organizations in China. Millions of Chinese have participated in the yoga day celebrations across the country in the international yoga day celebrations since 2015.
