5th China-South Asia Expo and 25th China Kunming Import & Export Fair

The fifth China-South Asia Expo and the 25th China Kunming Import & Export Fair opened in Kunming China's Yunnan Province, themed "Integrating into the Belt and Road Initiative, Promoting Win-Win Cooperation.The Expo was held at the Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Centre in Kunming. Other parallel events included the opening ceremony of the i) First China-South Asia cooperation forum, ii) China-South Asia Poverty Reduction Exhibition, iii) China-South Asia High-Level Round-table Meeting for Business Cooperation, iv) China-South Asia Local Government Leaders’ Dialogue, and a v) Seminar on Financial Cooperation Development Strategy.
Indian Chamber of commerce and FIEO reserved 258 booths in the China-South Asia Expo 2018. There was a total of 19 exhibition halls with around 8,500 booths covering an area of 190,000 square meters. The India-China bilateral trade rose by 18.63% to $84.44 billion last year. India has thus seen a major breakthrough in its exports to China in the recent past. China, being India's neighbor, has proved to be one of the major destinations for Indian exports under the current global trade scenario and an obvious immediate alternate to India’s traditional markets USA & Europe.
With an objective to further enhance trade and also encourage small and medium enterprises to establish trade linkages with China, the Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) and the Indian Chamber of commerce participated in the 5th China-South Asia Exposition, and the 25th China Import Export Fair comprising of both B2B and B2C at the Kunming Dianchi International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The China-South Asia Expo is a good opportunity for Indian businesses and industry associations, to showcase their products not only to Chinese buyers but also to more than 80 countries who will participate in the event. “The huge increase in participation over the last 8 years, itself shows the popularity of the event and importance of China as a growing market for India. there is a huge potential for exports in the near future in China. Dr. Ajay Sahai, Director General & CEO, FIEO also addressed the China-South Asia Business Forum.
The theme of the Business Forum is “Interconnection, Sharing, and Win-Win Cooperation”.
The Forum was attended by the Indian Consul-General in Guangzhou, Mr. Sailas Thangal, Director General & CEO, FIEO, Indian Business and corporate CEOs from China and Indian, INTACH Pondicherry, and representatives of Pondicherry India-China friendship association Mrs. Radha Srinivasagopalan and Dr. Das Bikash Kali.

A series of events were also held simultaneously with the expo, including the 25th China Kunming Import and Export Commodities Fair and the 13th China-South Asia Business Forum.
